Sandspit Fishing Charters is owned and operated by Nick Dobbyn and his Mum Carolyn. Our boat “Playin Hooky” is situated in Warkworth and operates out of the Sandspit Wharf. Sandspit is an easy 45 minute drive North from Downtown Auckland via state highway 1. See location map for details.

sandspit fishing charterNick is a fully qualified Maritime New Zealand skipper and a very experienced professional fisherman. He is also a very good free diver who currently holds New Zealand records with the most recent being a 213 kg Blue Marlin off the back of the Great Barrier.

Nick was a member of the New Zealand Fly Fishing team where he competed in the Australian Oceania champs in 2005 and won both the individual and team Gold medals, so of course saltwater fly fisherman or women are more than welcome to join us.

Nick also spent seven months touring and fly fishing the Alaskan rivers for King Salmon etc. He has also been fishing and diving recently in Thailand, Australia, Switzerland, France, Samoa, Rarotonga and we have to mention the many beautiful rivers in New Zealand’s South Island.
